American Idol Gets Schedule Change After The Bachelorette Got Pulled

A significant change is brewing in the world of reality television. American Idol, one of the longest-running singing competitions, is set to make a change in its broadcast schedule. The show’s new slot is the latest tweak to ABC’s lineup, following the cancellation of The Bachelorette.

American Idol rerun to cover for The Bachelorette post cancellation

In a bid to fill the void left by The Bachelorette’s abrupt cancellation, ABC will air an American Idol rerun this week. The move provides a reprieve for fans and a new development in the network’s schedule.

Taylor Frankie Paul’s season of The Bachelorette was pulled from ABC amid her domestic violence scandal and controversy. A video posted by TMZ showed her throwing chairs at ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen in 2023, with one allegedly hitting her child nearby. The disturbing footage prompted the broadcasting network to take swift action.

Paul’s season of The Bachelorette was scheduled to premiere on March 22, but ABC has pulled the show. Instead, a rerun of American Idol, featuring the Top 20 performances, Part 1, will air in its place. The network has yet to reveal plans for the timeslot moving forward, leaving room for potential changes, including the possibility of Idol airing twice a week starting March 30, 2026.

A spokesperson from Disney Entertainment Television commented on the cancellation of The Bachelorette, saying, “In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of The Bachelorette at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family (via TV Insider).”

The recent video has brought attention to Paul’s 2023 arrest for domestic violence in front of a minor. She previously spoke about the incident on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

As for American Idol, the Top 20 performances continue on March 23 with Part 2, followed by the Live Show on March 30, 2026.
