While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were ecstatic about the honor, royal experts believe they were not the right candidates.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were recently crowned Humanitarians of the Year on October 9. They received the award for making the digital world a safe place for everyone, especially kids, through their organizations. The couple founded the Archewell Foundation, a nonprofit organization, in 2020 to “Show Up, Do Good”. Additionally, they established The Parents’ Network in 2022 to support families and children affected by online harm.
With this win, many were happy for the couple. But some believe the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should not have received the award. According to Fox News Digital, a royal expert, Richard Fitzwilliams, is surprised to know that Harry and Markle have received this award.
“Despite the work they have undoubtedly done to highlight mental health issues … surely, they are the wrong winners for this sort of award,” the expert shared his thoughts. He firmly believes so because the couple is “estranged from their families.”
Moreover, Fitzwilliams says they “have launched deeply destructive attacks on the royal family for their personal and financial gain.” He feels, “winners of such an award should be positive in approach.”
“It states that Meghan is a ‘cultural catalyst for positive change’ and lists Harry’s memoir, ‘Spare,’ among his achievements,” said the expert. He thinks that “What their foundation has done in the field of mental health is, of course, to be welcomed.” However, Harry and Markle’s “treatment of their respective families makes them unsuitable recipients of a humanitarian award.”
