Glen Powell took some career-related advice from his mentor, Tom Cruise. The 36-year-old actor is all set to portray Ben Richards in Edgar Wright’s dystopian action thriller film, The Running Man. Hence, Powell took some honest advice from Tom Cruise to prepare for his role as Ben Richards.
Glen Powell shares that Tom Cruise has ‘broken every bone’ for a reason
Glen Powell revealed the advice Tom Cruise gave him for the stunt-heavy performance in The Running Man. Powell considers Cruise a mentor figure and called him to seek guidance in preparing for the film. In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Powell dished on Cruise’s very real and candid advice.
“What is your advice on not only how to make these things look authentic for an audience, but how to survive a movie?” Powell says he asked Cruise.
Cruise advised him to prepare extensively and fortify his body like it were an actual event happening in his life. He shared that stunts are as painful as actually getting hit, and Powell must be fully prepared for that. Powell revealed that he had gained a solid insight into the Top Gun star’s preparation, discipline, and commitment.
The 36-year-old actor also understood the importance of treating stunt-heavy scenes with utmost regard and appreciation. “It was made very clear after talking to him that there was a real sense of discipline around these things and to treat these stunts with reverence, because you can get extremely hurt, and he knows it better than anyone.”
“He’s broken every bone in his body. He’s like, this is not messing around,” Powell remarked, detailing Cruise’s serious and passionate advice to do stunts oneself.
It is no secret that Tom Cruise, 63, does his own stunts in his action films. In a past interview with Access Hollywood, the megastar remarked, “Well, you know, you never have to. But I want to. I want to thrill that audience, I want to do everything I can.”
Edgar Wright and Michael Bacall have written the film. It is based on the eponymous novel by Stephen King. King used the pseudonym Richard Bachman to publish the book in 1982. The Running Man releases in cinemas on November 14.
