In the wake of recent reports of a heated altercation between Kevin Costner and Wes Bentley, an old interview with Bentley in which he expresses his admiration for his co-star has resurfaced online.
Many months before these reports surfaced, Bentley spoke fondly of Costner in an interview with ExtraTV in November 2024. Reflecting on Costner’s exit from Yellowstone, Bentley said, “I’ll just say about Kevin that, you know, he’s such a huge part of the show and he leaves a big hole and we miss him, and I wish him the best luck.”
He went on to praise Sheridan’s handling of Costner’s exit, adding, “Taylor puts a lot into this. He cares a lot about his fans and about the story.”
The renewed attention comes after The Hollywood Reporter revealed that tensions between the two actors resulted in a heated confrontation. According to the publication, sources claimed that Costner allegedly clashed with Bentley during production over creative differences about how certain scenes should be played.
The situation reportedly escalated when Costner began instructing Bentley to perform scenes his way, deviating from Taylor Sheridan’s script. Bentley, who plays Jamie Dutton, stood his ground and said the show was Sheridan’s. Witnesses claimed that the argument escalated quickly, with Costner allegedly lunging at Bentley during the confrontation.
A source said, “Kevin didn’t like that, and he lunged at him. No fists were thrown, but they were in each other’s faces, pushing and shoving and just getting hot until they had to be separated.” Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, was visibly shaken, and production was paused briefly until tensions cooled.
