Jennifer Aniston says Friends remake or sequel is ‘impossible’ without Matthew Perry
Jennifer Aniston has ruled out the possibility of a Friends remake or sequel, saying it simply couldn’t happen without the late Matthew Perry. In a heartfelt conversation with Harper’s Bazaar U.K., the actress, who played the iconic role of Rachel Green from 1994 to 2004, reflected on the show that defined her career and the deep bond she shared with her castmates.
Talking about the potential of a sequel without Perry, Aniston said, “It would be literally, physically impossible.” She also reflected on Perry’s struggles with alcohol and drug addiction, saying, “It’s heartbreaking that he had so many demons.” The actress added, ”But boy, for someone who had that much inner turmoil, he sure got to laugh a lot, and that was everything to him.”
Perry, who portrayed Chandler Bing, passed away in 2023 at the age of 54. Reports later confirmed that his passing was linked to the “acute effects of ketamine.” However, other health complications, including heart disease and accidental drowning, also played a role.
During the same interview, Aniston spoke with warmth about her time on the NBC series. Describing it as “pure joy,” she said, “It completely formed who I was.” The Morning Show star said she eagerly looked forward to each day of filming and the chance to work alongside her castmates.
She added, “I couldn’t wait to read the scripts — we’d shoot the show every Friday night, and right after we wrapped, we’d find the new script for Monday morning in our dressing room.”
The show also featured Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer.
