During an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, singer-actress Jennifer Lopez reflected on her time off following her divorce from Ben Affleck, which was filed back in 2024.
“I had to stop everything, and I took a year off,” the singer shared. “I canceled tours, and I just decided to be home and sit in what had happened without running away from it through work, through another person, through anything.”
When the interviewer brought up Lopez’s quote from an old interview, where she said her life “exploded,” the “On the Floor” singer emphasized, “It did feel that way.” But she then prioritized her personal life and decided to be at home with her kids.
Furthermore, during the time off, the Anaconda actress recalled thinking, “What is going on with you?” It was because she didn’t believe that someone else was to blame for the situation and said, “I don’t think that that’s where the lesson is.” This led Lopez to decide to figure things out on her own.
The “Papi” singer then admitted that she is “happy” and feels “really good” right now. But when she was young, Lopez was scared and didn’t think she was capable of those feelings. “I was always really afraid to be alone,” she explained.
When asked who she was as a person today, the Shades of Blue actress proudly said that she is a mother of kids who will be going to college this year, a showgirl, an entertainer, an actor, and an entrepreneur. “I am happy, healthy, and grateful. I am surrounded by love, which is the best part,” Lopez concluded.
The duo initially dated in the early 2000s. They became engaged but split before marrying. Affleck and Lopez reunited in 2021, became engaged in April 2022, and married in July of the same year. Two years later, in August 2024, the couple filed for divorce, which was finalized in January 2025.
