Bowen Yang portrays Dobby as he mocks J.K. Rowling

Bowen Yang may have earned some new followers as he hilariously portrayed Dobby on the October 4 broadcast of SNL. The 34-year-old actor-comedian, dressed as the house elf from the famed Harry Potter series, had a few things to say about author J.K. Rowling and her ongoing beef with Emma Watson.

“Why would Dobby be scared, sir? Dobby’s just about to publicly weigh in on trans people, that’s all. Master sent Dobby to go on the telly and define once and for all what a woman is, sir,” Yang declared in a squeaky voice, trying to imitate Dobby.

As part of the skit, he accidentally revealed that his master is the popular author J.K. Rowling. Embarrassed at the slip-up, he bangs his head against the desk, causing his left sleeve to come undone at the shoulder, resulting in a wardrobe malfunction.

Upon realising what happened, Yang simply remarked, “Oh, Dobby’s come undone,” and continued with his sketch while trying to adjust the fabric of the sack-like costume. “Sorry! My fatigues are not well-made,” he stated, as the live audience and host Michael Che roared with laughter.

The comedian proceeded with the remainder of the skit, mocking J.K. Rowling’s alleged anti-trans stance in his own hilarious manner. He walked over to the camera and banged his head as hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che laughed in the background.

Yang fished out a t-shirt from his pocket which says “They K Rowling,” with an image of the author printed on a white t-shirt, ending the hysterical skit.

Ever since Watson publicly disapproved of Rowling’s views on trans rights, the two have been engaged in a cold war against each other. In retaliation, Rowling called Watson “ignorant of how ignorant she is” via her X (formerly Twiter) account.
