Bowen Yang reflects on his SNL tenure after leaving

Bowen Yang recently left SNL mid-season after his final episode on December 20, 2025, featuring a duet with host Ariana Grande. Later, he took to social media, where he posted an emotional message.

He wrote, “I loved working at SNL, and most of all, I loved the people. I was there at a time when many things in the world started to seem futile, but working at 30 Rock taught me the value in showing up anyway when people make it worthwhile.”

“I’m grateful for every minute of my time there. I learned about myself (bad with wigs), and I learned about others (generous, vulnerable, hot),” the Wicked actor continued. “I learned that human error can be nothing but correct. I learned that comedy is mostly logistics and that it will usually fail until it doesn’t, which is the besssst.”

The 35-year-old then went on to thank all of his on-screen and off-screen colleagues who worked with him on the show. He also thanked his Wicked costar for being alongside him during his last appearance. Yang wrote, “Thank you to Ari for sending me off in the dreamiest way I could imagine.”

He concluded, “The show doesn’t go on because it’s ready, but sh–, I hope I am.”

Many Hollywood celebrities have since replied to the post, expressing their love and support. Actors like Jason Momoa, Walton Goggins, Pedro Pascal, Brittany Snow, and Simu Liu were among those who responded.

Yang joined SNL as a writer in 2018 during Season 44. However, he transitioned into the featured cast for Season 45. Over the years, his contributions on the show earned him five Primetime Emmy nominations. Outside of SNL, he has also starred in the Wicked movies and Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens.
