As fans continue to process the explosive ending of Task Episode 4, one of the key cast members in the Mark Ruffalo-led crime drama has come out to shed light on his character’s fate in the show.

In a recent interview, Raúl Castillo, who portrays Cliff Broward, opened up about the reaction to his character’s death while also revealing if it was always the plan for Cliff to meet such a grueling end.
Raúl Castillo on if Cliff was always meant to die in Task Episode 4
While speaking to The Wrap, Castillo disclosed that Brad Ingelsby, who developed Task for HBO, had always envisioned Cliff to die in the ending of Episode 4.
“I felt like that was always his fate,” the Amexicano star noted, before adding, “There was always that fantasy of our life in Canada — I think even a lot of audience members are still holding out for that possibility, but the scripts were pretty set from the time that they came to be.” Castillo also praised Ingelsby’s tight scripts, stating that not “a lot that changed from the early drafts to what we shot.”
In Task Episode 4, Cliff inadvertently ends up in the clutches of the Dark Hearts, resulting in his gruesome death at the hands of Sam Keeley’s Jayson Wilkes.
Talking about the viewers’ reaction to Cliff’s demise in the ending of Task Episode 4, Castillo noted, “It’s interesting now that the series is out, and I’m hearing from friends and family who are watching the show and who are really invested in the characters, and that’s a testament to Brad’s writing. People are at the edge of their seats. They want to know what happens next. I’ve been getting all these interesting messages from people in my life, and their extreme anxiety about Cliff’s future.”
The critically acclaimed miniseries has released four chapters from its seven-episode roster so far, with the remaining episodes set to come out on HBO Max every Sunday.
