Glenn Close, one of the most iconic actors of all time, revealed that doing a nude scene at the age of 78 for her upcoming movie, The Summer Book, was her own idea. The eight-time Oscar nominee has seemingly not lost her sharpness at all and continues to be as invested in her roles as she was decades ago.
Here’s what Glenn Close said about her nude scene.
Glenn Close didn’t want to put her ‘clothes back on’ in her The Summer Book nude scene
Glenn Close opened up about her nude scene in The Summer Book, her new film based on the novel by celebrated Finnish author Tove Jansson. Speaking to AARP’s Movies for Grownups, the 78-year-old actress addressed her nude scene, saying, “It was my idea.”
She explained that she “thought that’s something [her character] would do when no one else is around. In Finland, they’re much more used to nakedness than we are.” She added, “I didn’t want to put my clothes back on. It felt so good.” In this scene, the Grandmother takes a fully nude walk in the forest.
Close plays the role of Grandmother in the movie. Interestingly, she became a first-time grandmother earlier this year after her daughter, Annie, gave birth to her first child, son Rory Westaway Albu.
The Summer Book premiered in US theatres on September 19, 2025, after several delays due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. The film also stars Emily Matthews, Anders Danielsen Lie, Ingvar Sigurdsson, Pekka Strang, and Sophia Heikkilä.
The synopsis for the film reads, “Nine-year-old Sophia (Emily Matthews) spends the summers at her family’s seasonal home on a tranquil isle in the Gulf of Finland, but this will be the first summer without her mother. Her father (Lie) remains numbed by grief while her grandmother (Close) guides her on a giddy, winding path towards young adulthood, in a delicate account of growing up and growing old.”
The Summer Book is now playing in theatres across the United States.
