Per the Daily Mail, according to the 2023 book, “Gilded Youth” by royal biographer Tom Quinn, the “protocols” of the palace astounded the Duchess of Sussex. The author further claimed that the royal life was not what Meghan Markle “expected.”
In his book, Tom Quinn claimed, “I don’t think in the whole history there was ever a greater divide between what someone expected when they became a member of the Royal Family.” The royal biographer continued, “And what they discovered it was really like.” The author further expressed that Meghan Markle “suddenly found herself in an institution she found she couldn’t influence.” He added, “And that assigns roles to people and that do not change.”
Tom Quinn also talked about how Meghan Markle felt in comparison to Kate Middleton in the book “Gilded Youth.” The royal biographer penned, “She was dazzled by the worldwide fame that being a princess would bring.” Quinn continued, “But she was shocked by the Palace protocol.” He added, “And by the fact that she was not and never could be first in the pecking order.” According to the book, the Duchess of Sussex hated being a “second-rate princess” to Kate Middleton.
The author further noted, “Most of all, she hated the fact that she had to do what she was told.” Tom Quinn wrote that she “was a global superstar but was being told what she could and could not do.” Meghan Markle “hated it,” the biographer added.
