For Meghan Markle, Pantyhose Meant More Than Just Clothes, Says Source

Meghan Markle might have bent several rules during her time at the palace residence, but it was reportedly her dislike for pantyhose that went to the extent of affecting royal family relations. A source recently claimed that the Duchess of Sussex saw the garment as one that spoke volumes about having control. According to the insider, pantyhose meant more than just clothes for Markle.

Meghan Markle thought pantyhose meant ‘control’ and therefore, tried not to wear them regularly, says source

For the royal family, pantyhose serve as more than just an aesthetic. The clothing item has been a part of their tradition for centuries. However, for Meghan Markle, pantyhose was allegedly a conflict between bowing down to the customs or maintaining her individuality.

According to Rob Shuter’s exclusive report, a source indicated that the Duchess of Sussex wasn’t too fond of wearing pantyhose, impacting her relationship with the royal family. This information comes after Markle recently made a subtle dig at the tradition in her interview with Bloomberg. The duchess hinted at not being able to be vocal about things during her time at the palace, including having to wear “nude pantyhose all the time.”

Markle further claimed that she hadn’t seen pantyhose since the 80s films. She felt that this tradition was “a little bit inauthentic” and she didn’t feel like herself while wearing the same. The conflict was reportedly brought to light during her wedding preparation in 2018. A palace insider recalled her disagreement with Kate Middleton at the time.

According to them, the Princess of Wales insisted that bridesmaids, including her daughter Princess Charlotte, wear pantyhose. However, Markle didn’t support the decision and resisted, leading the ladies to walk “bare-legged.” Speaking about the incident, the insider said, “It was symbolic of something bigger — Meghan didn’t want to play by rules she thought were silly.”

The Duchess of Sussex reportedly wore pantyhose during outings with the late Queen Elizabeth II, but ditched the custom during her solo visits. The source claimed that the hosiery was never merely clothes for Markle but rather about “control.”
