Shia LaBeouf was part of Francis Ford Coppola’s self-financed passion project, Megalopolis, alongside Jon Voight, with whom he once nearly had a fistfight over political differences. A documentary titled Megadoc covers the behind-the-scenes occurrences in the massive project, along with testimonies from those who were there. LaBeouf revealed details about this fight in the documentary.
Shia LaBeouf talks fight with Jon Voight and making amends before Megalopolis
Shia LaBeouf had a complicated relationship with veteran actor Jon Voight. He had to make amends before the two started working together again in Megalopolis. In the documentary, releasing on September 19, 2025, the actor spoke about his and Voight’s prior differences. He also explained how those differences almost led to a physical altercation.
“I had basically f—ed my whole life up,” LaBeouf said in the documentary (via PEOPLE). Shortly before starting his work on Megalopolis, his girlfriend, FKA twigs, accused him of physical and emotional abuse. She has since dropped the case. “So I was in the midst of doing this ninth step in this program I’m in, and I had to go make amends to Voight,” LaBeouf revealed.
He elaborated that Voight’s right-leaning politics were “different” from his own, which led to disagreements. Though the 36-year-old actor said that Voight had been like a “mentor” to him, their relationship had hit a roadblock earlier.
LaBeouf recalled that he and Voight “had a big fight on the phone, where I told him I was going to come to his house and we’re going to fistfight. And I hung up the phone and didn’t talk to him for years.”
The actor also revealed that Voight played a key role in him getting the role in Megalopolis after the two reconciled.
Megalopolis was not one of the most acclaimed films of the year. However, the film contained elements that went beyond the scope of ordinary filmmakers. Megadoc will provide a more detailed glimpse into the film and the story behind Francis Ford Coppola’s epic.
