FKA Twigs has officially dropped her lawsuit against Shia LaBeouf, bringing a close to a five-year legal case. According to court filings dated Monday, July 21, the British singer requested that the case be dismissed “with prejudice,” ensuring that the claims cannot be refiled at any point in the future. Her lawyer, Bryan Freedman, submitted the request on her behalf.
The resolution was confirmed through a joint statement released by the parties’ attorneys. Freedman and LaBeouf’s legal representative, Shawn Holley, said, “Committed to forging a constructive path forward, we have agreed to settle our case out of court. While the details of the settlement will remain private, we wish each other personal happiness, professional success, and peace in the future.” (via US Weekly)
The legal battle began in 2020, when FKA Twigs, born Tahliah Debrett Barnett, sued LaBeouf for alleged physical, emotional, and psychological abuse during their relationship. Their relationship began in 2018 after they met while working on the film Honey Boy and ended in 2019.
In her filing, Barnett described repeated instances of mistreatment. This included being slammed against a vehicle, strangled while she was asleep, and subjected to verbal and emotional abuse. She also alleged that LaBeouf knowingly transmitted a sexually transmitted disease to her. LaBeouf has consistently denied all allegations of wrongdoing.
Over the years, the case saw numerous delays, with the trial originally set for 2023. However, it was postponed without a new date being confirmed. The court docket now reflects a full dismissal of the case.
