The Presumed Innocent star surprised one of his biggest fans — now Emmy-winning actor Owen Cooper — a day before the 2025 Emmy Awards.
According to a video shared by Netflix on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, the team staged a surprise for Cooper to meet his cinematic hero, Jake Gyllenhaal. They set up a camera interview in the hotel where the former was staying and asked him some questions.
“Who are you most excited to meet tomorrow?” To which, the Adolescence star answered coyly, “I think everyone knows that Jake Gyllenhaal is my top number one.”
The video then cut to the Donnie Darko actor walking down the corridor excitedly, clutching the gift he got for Cooper, expressing that he’s nervous to meet Cooper.
The next question followed, “Now, if you were to meet Jake, what would you say?” As Owen Cooper began to answer, “I don’t know. I’ll just stare at him. I don’t really know,” Jake Gyllenhaal walked in, taking his young fan by surprise. The two talented actors then embraced, sharing a genuine camaraderie, with Cooper unable to believe he had finally met his favorite actor.
The Road House star then handed Cooper a thoughtful gift — a lucky duck toy. He revealed that his friend sent it to him before the Academy Awards, and now he is passing the good luck charm on to him.
Touched by Gyllenhaal’s warm gesture, Cooper thanked him profusely before they posed for pictures together. Meanwhile, fans in the comments section speculated that Jake Gyllenhaal was originally gifted the lucky duck by the late Heath Ledger.
