During the Emmys 2025 on Sunday, September 14, 2025, Sterling K. Brown appeared on stage on a scooter when he was joined by his Paradise co-stars to present an award. The Academy Award nominee took to his Instagram account to address the incident that led to him having a cast. Prior to the Emmys, Brown uploaded a nearly 7-minute video on Tuesday where he explained that he tore his Achilles tendon while “doing something athletic.”
Brown explained that he wasn’t doing anything dangerous. “Took a step, and it felt like somebody stomped on the back of my heel,” the actor shared. Brown stated that he was initially furious that somebody stepped on his foot, but later realized that nobody did, understanding the severity of his injury.
The This is Us star also revealed that he needs surgery to fix his leg. “Going to do it after the Emmys so I can motivate myself to go and try to celebrate with my cast and the producers of Paradise, because we got recognized and it would be nice to be out there and chillin’,” he said.
Brown shared that he is making the video to actively prepare and coach himself for the days post his surgery. He concluded the video by thanking his followers for the positivity.
Notably, Sterling K. Brown’s Paradise was nominated in four Emmy categories: Outstanding Drama Series, Brown for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, James Marsden for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, and Julianne Nicholson for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. However, the show couldn’t win any Emmys this year.
