Calvin Harris on Miley Cyrus Feud Rumors & Failed Collaboration Plans With Singer

Calvin Harris sparked conversation online when he previewed a reworked version of his track “Ocean,” this time featuring Jessie Reyez. The release followed an earlier teaser with Miley Cyrus’ vocals, which left fans questioning what had happened to their collaboration. As speculation about tensions grew, Harris addressed the rumors directly and revealed what led to the change.

Here’s what he said about Cyrus, why the project shifted, and how fans reacted to the update.

Here’s what Calvin Harris has to say about Miley Cyrus feud rumors

Calvin Harris directly addressed speculation about a feud with Miley Cyrus, clarifying, “Absolutely not!!” when asked if there was any issue between them.

He explained that their scrapped collaboration on “Ocean” came down to “my bad…crossed wires” and not problems with Cyrus or her team. Harris further emphasized his respect for her by replying to fans, “She has an amazing voice,” and encouraging one commenter to “tell [Cyrus]” after they said they preferred her version.

The rumors began after Harris previewed a version of “Ocean” in 2024 featuring Cyrus’ vocals, before releasing a 2025 clip of the track with Jessie Reyez singing instead. Fans questioned the switch, with some asking if Cyrus’ team blocked the release. Harris denied this, noting it was originally with Reyez, who also wrote the song.

When one fan asked him to release the Cyrus version, Harris said it was “not possible.” He also responded humorously to a commenter who said they “only want Miley,” writing, “Off you pop then.” Despite shutting down requests for Cyrus’ version, he reiterated multiple times that there was no animosity between them.

Reyez later shared her own clip of the song on Instagram, with lyrics including, “Sun is up, back to life, my eyes are open / And the last thing I remember was you holding me.” Harris also confirmed that the “Ocean” track with Reyez followed his original plan before Cyrus recorded her vocals.

Harris’ latest singles in 2025 include “Smoke the Pain Away” and “Blessings” with Clementine Douglas, following the 2024 release of his full-length project 96 Months. The Jessie Reyez version of “Ocean” marks his newest preview shared publicly, while the Miley Cyrus recording remains unreleased.
