Popular Pork Product Recalled Over Plastic Contamination

A recall for a pork product sold nationwide has been issued after consumers found pieces of plastic in it. The product is called Deli Express BBQ Pulled Pork, a 5.5-oz. sandwich that uses sesame seed buns. The item’s manufacturer E.A. Sween Company voluntarily issued the recall, as noted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), that will impact over 127,000 pounds of the pulled pork item. The product was distributed throughout the continental United States, Guam, and Hawaii, in addition to the Department of Defense.

The lot number can be found on the ingredient label next to the barcode along the bottom of the product’s container. The affected products have been purchased in multiple stores for nearly ten months between January 16 and October 23, 2025.

The USDA has classified the recall as a high Class I, the most serious classification for products that can cause adverse health consequences when consumed.

E.A. Sween Company discovered the issue after the company received numerous complaints from consumers who found shards of plastics in the sandwich. An internal investigation found that the plastic came from gallon-sized plastic barbecue bottles that are used in the item’s production. Fortunately, there has been no known report of injury and harm due to the product’s consumption.

That said, the USDA urges that consumers who have purchased the affected pork product to throw them away or return to the place of purchase for a refund.

This past week has been rife with recalls, including one for frozen shrimp due to metal contamination and another for pet foods with potential salmonella.
