Blake Lively’s lawyer is making headlines amid a heated legal battle tied to the upcoming film It Ends With Us. The actress recently sat for a deposition that has sparked controversy after Justin Baldoni’s legal team filed the full 292-page transcript to the public docket. Her lawyers are now pushing back, accusing Baldoni of using the court system to smear her publicly.
Here’s what we know about the deposition dispute, the claims from both sides, and how it impacts the ongoing case.
Blake Lively’s lawyer calls out Justin Baldoni over deposition transcript
Blake Lively’s lawyers have accused Justin Baldoni’s legal team of trying to “force” the release of her 292-page deposition transcript.
In a motion filed on August 4, 2025, Lively’s lawyers alleged that Baldoni’s team uploaded the full, unreviewed transcript to the public docket despite only referencing two pages. They claim there was “no plausible legal reason to do so” and labeled the move “a manufactured excuse to force the transcript into the public domain.” (via People)
“There is no conceivable legal purpose to file the whole transcript,” her attorneys wrote. “Particularly given that it has not been reviewed, corrected or finalized.”
The deposition took place on July 31, 2025, at the New York office of Lively’s attorney. Judge Lewis J. Liman had issued a protective order allowing Lively’s team control over the location and requiring advance notice of attendees. Baldoni attended the deposition in person.
Lively’s lawyers said media coverage began almost immediately, including details about Baldoni’s presence and descriptions of Lively’s appearance and legal team. They argued these leaks were not accidental and accused Baldoni’s attorneys of using the filing to support a “media campaign.”
The filing claims Baldoni’s team is trying to provoke Lively into justifying sealing the transcript to push a false narrative that she fears its release. “To suggest otherwise is part of an ongoing character attack that Mr. Freedman has been advancing to undermine Ms. Lively’s credibility and taint the jury pool,” the motion added.
Blake Lively, 37, accused Justin Baldoni of sexual harassment and retaliation. Baldoni denied the allegations. In June, the court dismissed his $400 million countersuit against Lively and Ryan Reynolds. The trial begins in March 2026.
