At the world premiere of Wednesday Season 2 Part One on July 30, Fred Armisen shared his experience of working alongside Jenna Ortega. That collaboration offered him an unexpected lesson.
Speaking with PEOPLE at the event, the SNL star explained how Ortega’s commitment to her role changed the way he approaches performance. Armisen credited Ortega with influencing him to become more “meticulous.” “It’s great watching Jenna, because she keeps track of the script in this way that she understands the logic of her character,” he noted.
Armisen went on to describe her preparation, saying she carefully analyzes why every scene matters. He explained, “It’s not like she just shows up and it’s like, ‘I’m just gonna do this character.’ She’s like, ‘Why does this moment count?’ So she’s very meticulous, and it makes me want to be more like her. I’m like, ‘No, I gotta […] pay attention.’”
In addition to praising Ortega’s approach, Armisen also recalled one particular behind-the-scenes memory. He described a scene set in an insane asylum, where the atmosphere felt so surreal it made him reflect on his experience. The actor explained, “This fake rain and lightning and stuff, and it, it just makes me feel like if I was a little kid watching myself, I’d be like, ‘Wow, I’m really on a TV show.’”
Armisen reprises his role as Uncle Fester in Wednesday Season 2, which will be released on Netflix in two parts. Part One arrives on August 6, while Part Two follows on September 3.
