Lions Fans Slam Kyle Allen for Disastrous Performance in NFL Hall of Fame Game

Detroit Lions quarterback Kyle Allen has come under fire, with fans slamming him online for his performance against the LA Chargers in the recently concluded NFL Hall of Fame game. Despite being a non-starter for the Lions, Allen received the opportunity to turn things around in his side’s first preseason. Nevertheless, his costly mistakes in the first quarter of the game itself seem to have riled up the Lions fans.

Kyle Allen criticized for his part in the Lions’ defeat vs. the LA Chargers

On July 31, Kyle Allen received the rare opportunity to feature in the Detroit Lions’ starting lineup in their 2025 NFL Hall of Fame fixture vs. the LA Chargers. However, the 29-year-old failed to pounce upon the chance and instead ended up fumbling the ball, quite literally.

In the first quarter itself, Allen recorded two interceptions. The first interception occurred when he was trying to find Tom Kennedy, but ended up giving the ball away to the opposition’s Nikko Reed. The Chargers’ undrafted free-agent cornerback subsequently supplied a 60-yard return, leading to a touchdown.

After he misplaced a second pass, aimed at the rookie wideout Isaac TeSlaa, fans quickly took to the internet to voice their disappointment. “Kyle Allen 1 start in 5 years and he’s starting in a Hall of Fame game….Please get Hendon Hooker out here please,” a Detroit fan noted before the end of the first quarter. Another stated, “Whoever this QB for the Lions think he’s outta there after this game.” A third fan criticized his pass that led to a Chargers touchdown by saying, “Such a bad read. Had underneath open, football could be so simple.” (via Sporting News)

Allen eventually exited the game after the first half, having recorded nine completed passes out of 14 attempts for 91 yards in addition to the two interceptions for the Lions. With Allen’s second-half replacement, Hendon Hooker, failing to improve upon his performance, the Lions ended up losing the game 34-7.
