NFL’s Najee Harris Suffers Eye Injury In Firework Accident

NFL running back Najee Harris recently sustained an eye injury during a Fourth of July celebration in Antioch, California. As such, fans have come out to inquire about the current state of the 27-year-old football player, voicing their concerns for the new Los Angeles Chargers signing.

What happened to Najee Harris?

On July 5, the former Pittsburgh Steelers man visited the 2200 block of Spanos Street in Antioch to attend an Independence Day celebration. What started as a festive occasion, however, ended up being a night to forget for Najee Harris, with the NFL regular injuring his eye at the event following a “fireworks mishap.”

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport recently shared an official statement from Najee Harris’ agent, Doug Hendrickson, on X (formerly Twitter) that read, “Najee Harris was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees. Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident, but is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season.”

Officials present at the scene reported that other attendees, aside from Harris, also suffered injuries due to the misfiring fireworks. The Antioch police later shared an official statement on Facebook, detailing what transpired on the fateful night. The post read, “On July 5, at approximately 12:18 a.m., the Antioch Police Department dispatch center received multiple calls reporting an explosion on the 2200 block of Spanos Street. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the aftermath of an explosion caused by fireworks.”

Harris first headed to John Muir Hospital in Concord before proceeding to Stanford Hospital to treat his superficial eye injury.

Having turned out for the Pittsburgh Steelers throughout his NFL career, Najee Harris recently switched teams by joining the Los Angeles Chargers in March 2025. While exact details regarding his knock remain under wraps at the time of writing, the comments shared by Harris’ agent suggest that he will be able to make a full recovery before the new NFL season kicks in.
