Brad Pitt has a word of advice for rising stars in Hollywood: which is to not rush into franchises or superhero roles just because everyone else is doing it. While promoting his latest film F1, the actor stopped by the New Heights podcast hosted by Travis and Jason Kelce, where he opened up about what excites him and concerns him, about the next gen of actors.
Brad Pitt talks about his generation of actors and gives career advice to rising stars
Brad Pitt is keeping it real with the next generation of Hollywood stars. He expressed how much he enjoys watching new talent navigate the business, but warned them not to give in to one of the biggest modern-day traps: signing onto a franchise or superhero movie just for the sake of it.
“I like watching what the new generation is coming in with,” Pitt said on the podcast. “I like to see what they are up against and the way they negotiate and work their way through it. They enjoy it more. We were more uptight, and it had to be about acting… like, you didn’t sell out, you didn’t sell out.”
He respects that newer actors explore art in different spaces, but worries about how easily big studio demands can sweep them up. “But they also get caught up in ‘you have to have a franchise’ or ‘have to have a superhero.’ But I keep saying, ‘Don’t! Don’t! They’ll die.’”
The Kelce brothers pointed out how exhausting the franchise path can be, especially for younger performers. Pitt didn’t disagree. Despite a brief cameo in Deadpool 2, Pitt has mostly avoided capes and cinematic universes. Outside the Ocean’s trilogy, he hasn’t committed to franchise filmmaking the way many of his peers have.
Meanwhile, Pitt may soon find himself in a franchise of his own. His latest film, F1, has become Apple’s biggest opening-weekend hit, with talks of a sequel already underway. David Fincher will also direct him as he reprises his role in a new Once Upon a Time in Hollywood follow-up for Netflix.
