Comedian Margaret Cho has called out Ellen DeGeneres for what she describes as “really weird and not nice.” The Grammy-nominated artist revealed that the iconic TV host would pretend not to know her despite having a shared history.
Margaret Cho slams Ellen DeGeneres for not being ‘nice’ to her
Fire Island star Margaret Cho opened up about her professional relationship with Ellen DeGeneres on The Kelly Mantle Show podcast. “Ellen was really weird and not nice to me for most of my career,” the Emmy-award nominee shared.
Cho revealed she opened for DeGeneres in 1980s comedy clubs before the latter gained fame. However, according to Cho, DeGeneres “acted like we just met” when she appeared on DeGeneres’ show in the 2000s.
The 56-year-old artist continued, “And I’m like, ‘B—-, what?’ Like, that’s weird. We go way back. It’s so creepy and weird.” Cho also opened up about another incident that involved late English singer David Bowie. The It’s My Party star shared that she once attended Bowie’s concert wearing a “Chinese emperor outfit.”
The legendary singer praised Cho’s iconic look at DeGeneres’ show. However, that was allegedly cut out of the segment. The comedian explained, “David Bowie had been on the show, and he was so excited that the night before that I had come to his show wearing this giant Chinese Emperor outfit.”
The comedian continued, “He was really thrilled about it and he talked at length about it — and she cut it out of the show. Which made me so mad.” Cho recalled that she got to hear about the incident from one of the producers. “The producer, who’s a really good friend of mine, had to call me and tell me, ‘I can’t believe she did this, but she cut it out of the show.'”
She claimed that it was the producer who informed her that Bowie loved her outfit. Cho found it “rude.” She continued, “I don’t know if it was personal, maybe it [cut] was for time. But still, I’m going to take it personally just because I decided to.”
