Visionary comic book creator Peter David has passed away at the age of 68. Remembered for his 12-year stint with The Incredible Hulk comics, Peter David’s death was confirmed by his close associate and fellow fantasy writer Keith R.A. DeCandido this Sunday.
Here’s everything you need to know regarding the recent demise of the seasoned creator.
Peter David cause of death explained
On May 25, DeCandido took to Facebook to share the despairing news regarding the death of Peter David. In his heartfelt message, the Star Trek contributor noted, “Just got the news that Peter David finally lost his rather lengthy battle with his failing physical form last night. I first met Peter 35 years ago, when he appeared on The Chronic Rift public access show, and over the last three-and-a-half decades, he has been a respected creator, a good friend, a valued colleague, and a generally wonderful person.”
Talking about Peter David’s family, following the writer’s death, DeCandido also wrote, “I have a lot to say about him, but right now I’m just sad that I won’t get to enjoy his delightfully smart and funny presence ever again. And I’m also thinking of his wife Kathleen O’Shea David, and his daughters Ariel, Shana, Gwen, and Caroline.”
Prior to his death, David had been battling a series of complicated health issues that resulted in him racking up a massive medical debt. In order to help David and his wife pay off their dues, Graham Murphy, a friend of the couple, kickstarted a GoFundMe page after the duo received rejection on their Medicaid claims. On May 20, Kathleen, David’s partner, stated that doctors had temporarily put the comic book veteran on a ventilator “due to his inability to cough or clear his throat.”
In addition to The Incredible Hulk comics, David has also contributed significantly to the success of Aquaman, Young Justice, Supergirl, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2099, and Captain Marvel, among others.
