Microsoft has lowered the Xbox One’s price to £299.99 in the UK, representing a saving of £30, as the company looks to gain the upper hand on Sony and its PS4.
Microsoft announced the price drop with the claim that the Xbox One has “the best exclusives and biggest blockbusters,” and while its £300 retail price point means that has lowered in value by over £150 since the beginning of 2014, it’s still available for even cheaper through online retailers such as Amazon, who is currently selling the console for £286.

On the other hand, the PS4 retails on Amazon for £322, a reasonably higher amount, while many other stores such as GAME are selling Sony’s console for between £330 – £350. The Xbox One’s price drop represents a strong push from Microsoft to get the console in more homes by the end of this year. Both PS4 and Xbox One software sales were up by 118% in the UK over the Christmas period, and with Sony’s biggest upcoming exclusive IP Uncharted 4 being put on the backburner until next year, Microsoft has a huge opportunity to swoop into the lead with the likes of Halo 5: Guardians, timed exclusive Rise of the Tomb Raider and Forza Motorsport 6 being just around the corner.
Halo 5 will be a huge game for the Xbox One this year.
According to Microsoft the promotion will be held for a limited time only, with a statement from the company reading: “This is a UK-only retail promotion and offers great value for fans looking to buy an Xbox One ahead of the launch of 2015’s highly-anticipated games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Batman: Arkham Knight, along with Xbox exclusives such as Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza Motorsport 6 and Halo 5: Guardians.”
The Xbox One certainly has more exclusives in the pipeline this year, so if you wanted to check out Microsoft’s latest console then now is as good a time as any.
