It’s not unusual for alcoholic cop Lou Garou to black out and wake up in unfamiliar surroundings, but lately things have taken a strange turn… crime scenes seem oddly familiar, Lou’s senses are heightened, and when the full moon is out, he’s a rage-fueled werewolf. “Wolfcop” is one cop’s quest to become a better man… one transformation at a time.
Or so the website promises. And despite its “typical” premise, the flick is getting good reviews following its Canadian premiere this past weekend.
“It’s the reaction we hoped for,” said writer and director of the film Lowell Dean (Global News). “We heard a lot of laughs, some scares and some screams. It’s exactly what we were going for. We wanted it to be not just one thing. It’s always a tightrope when you’re mixing comedy and horror, but that’s also the fun of it.”
“She’s kind of a bad-ass, gun-wielding kind of woman,” said actress Amy Matysio, who plays Tina Walsh, to CBC Radio host Craig Lederhouse just ahead of the premiere. “She’s been so fun to play. I get to do a lot of fighting. I did a lot of gun work. I wanted to be involved from the minute that they started their rollout out to try and win the CineCoup prize. I thought what they were doing was amazing and I sort of begged for the part, really.”
