Thatâs right readers, the weather is turning and while the hole in the ozone layer might be making for some pretty warm days here in the land down under, the nights are getting chilly. Well, luckily for you, there is a plethora of televisual entertainment on offer for the month of May, and weâve got the best of the best here for your perusal.
So take your pick, pop on the kettle and settle in for yet another month of media assisted isolation and crippling loneliness as we tell you What To Watch in May.
Grimm Season 4
Law & Order meets American Horror Story, Grimm has been a bit of a sleeper hit the past few years, gathering a dedicated fanbase thanks to itâs sharp writing and fantasy and horror leanings proving strong with genre fans. Following the adventures of detective Nick Burhardt who as a descendant of the Grimm line (as in the Brother Grimm of Grimmâs Fairytales fame) has special powers to see the supernatural, the showâs 4th season has just been released on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital, with it picking up as Burkhardt struggles to deal with losing his powers.
Essentially a police procedural drama with a twist â i.e. plenty of occult and fantasy elements thrown in to drive the show â Grimm is perfect for fans of shows like Supernatural and Buffy i.e. cop/action shows with a darker edge. This season however really sees the shit hit the fan, with some of the many seeds planted in earlier seasons finally bearing fruit. Pulling no punches, the series touches on tough topics like racism and discrimination while never losing track of what it is â a great monster of the week show with a very strong meta-narrative.

Game Of Thrones Season 6
As if you needed us to tell you to watch this. A cultural phenomenon bordering on religion (dropping spoilers among hardcore fans is likely to earn you some Ramsay âThe Bastardâ Bolton level torture) watching HBOâs smash hit adaptation of George R.R. Martinâs epic A Song Of Ice And Fire series of fantasy novels has become a ritual to many.
And even if you have begun to tire of the never-ending cliffhangers and seemingly ever-escalating melodrama, this season is an important one as itâs the first time the TV series will be ahead of the books. Thatâs right, you can finally spoil things for that holier than thou friend whoâd read the books before the series began and laughed at you when you cried at the Red Wedding. Because what better way to celebrate the return of Game Of Thrones than with a good bit of revenge.
Game Of Thrones Season 6 airs Mondays on Showcase at 11am.
Wolf Creek The Series
Heading down under for this one, Stan is launching itâs mini series threequel to Wolf Creek in May, with the bone-chilling trailer dropped a month or so back setting fan expectation aflame. Giving the films serial-killer-hunts-tourists premise a bit of a twist, the series will see John Jarrat return as the terrifying outback killer Mick Taylor but this time, itâs he that is being hunted â by one of his surviving victims Eve Thorogood (Lucy Fry). As you can imagine Mick isnât happy to play prey for too long, with the series looking set to offer up plenty of tension and thrills as the two go back and forth.
Wolf Creek The Series will be available exclusively on Stan from May 12th.
Bloodline Season 2
In keeping with the bloody theme, Netflix original series Bloodline is returning at the end of May and we canât wait to wade back into the murky moral depths of this neo-noir family saga. And donât worry, our very own Ben Mendelsohn is returning as Danny Rayburn despite the character being killed off in the first season.
This doesnât mean the show is taking a turn toward the Walking Dead (although that would be kind of awesome), because as series Executive Producer Glen Kessler told TVLine âthe DNA of the show is such that the past is always with usâ. So expect plenty of flashbacks and dream sequences I guess, as judging by Kesslerâs comments that the second season will let us âlearn more about Dannyâs effect on the family and more about his pastâ weâll be seeing a lot of Mendelsohn from beyond the grave.
Bloodline Season 2 will be available exclusively on Netflix from May 27th.
Marseille
One of Netflixâs riskier original programming bets, Marseille looks set to be a European take on a The Wire or House Of Cards-esque institutional saga. Pitting Gerard Depardieuâs veteran Mayor of Marseille Robert Taro against his former protege Lucas Barres played by BenoĂźt Magimel, the French language series looks set to deliver up political intrigue, treachery, and tension in spades. Plus with Depardieu headlining the show in what might be the most exciting role heâs had in years, this show is sure to cause a stir the world over.
Marseille will be available exclusively on Netflix from May 5th.
Look Whoâs Back
Only new in that it was recently added to Netflix, this absurd comedy has the best premise of any film in the last decade. Essentially Hitler wakes up in modern day Germany with no knowledge of what happened after 1945. Interpreting the world around him through a Nazi perspective, everyone recognizes him but assumes he must be an actor or comedian? He then ends up on TV, where his angry rants make him a viral media sensation. Anyway I wonât tell you anymore for fear of ruining the film, but trust me, you will laugh as much as you are offended.
