‘She’s Out’: Stephen Colbert Celebrates Kristi Noem ‘Getting Fired’

Stephen Colbert opened the latest episode of The Late Show by celebrating the news that Kristi Noem would be leaving her position as Secretary of Homeland Security. President Donald Trump announced the Cabinet change earlier in the day, which is the first major shake-up to his second-term administration.

“Well it’s a rainy night here in New York,” Stephen Colbert began before his live studio audience. Then, pivoting sharply, he added: “Okay enough of that. Let’s talk about Kristi Noem getting fired!”

The audience erupted as Colbert delivered the news viewers had been waiting for. “She’s out, she’s gone. Her fault for standing too close to that gravel pit,” he joked, referencing the infamous passage from Noem’s memoir where she described shooting her own dog and disposing of the body in a gravel pit.

Donald Trump announced the leadership shake-up on Truth Social, revealing that Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin would take over DHS while Noem would be “moving to be Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas, our new Security Initiative in the Western Hemisphere.”

Colbert also made a dig at the new title, roping Donald Trump in it, too. “That sounds like someone’s about to become the FIFA secretary of Homeland Security,” he cracked, taking a swipe at both Noem’s vague new role and Trump’s recent controversial Peace Prize from the international soccer organization.

Furthermore, Colbert took several shots at Kristi Noem’s troubled tenure, including her habit of labeling ICE victims as criminals before investigations concluded. At one point, he jokingly declared: “Before we find out any information about what happened, I just want to say with absolute certainty, she is a domestic terrorist who deserves to go to GTMO.” After a beat, he added, “I’m sorry, I’m being told that’s not true. But you know what, I acted on the information we had at the time.”

Kristi Noem’s dismissal follows months of controversy at DHS.
