Stephen Colbert appears to have had an amusing day after learning about Kristi Noem getting fired from her Homeland Security Secretary post at the hands of Donald Trump. The late-night talk show host made several jokes about the former Governor of South Dakota losing her latest federal job, going as far as to label her a “domestic terrorist.”

On the March 5 episode of his show, the 61-year-old comedian opened proceedings by delving straight into the dismissal of the Homeland Security Secretary.
“Let’s talk about Kristi Noem getting fired,” Stephen Colbert exclaimed shortly after taking the stage on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “Yeah, she’s out, she’s gone. Her fault for standing too close to that gravel pit,” he added. This referred to Noem admitting to having put her dog down and burying it in a gravel pit in her book (via The Guardian).
“It’s too soon to know exactly why Kristi Noem is gone. Before we find out any more information about what happened, I just want to say with absolute certainty, she is a domestic terrorist who deserves to go to Gitmo,” Colbert quipped, alluding to the high-security US detention facility in Guantanamo Bay.
“I’m sorry, I’m being told that’s not true. But you know what, I acted on the information we had at the time,” the host continued, this time mocking Noem’s handling of ICE-related killings.
On March 5, Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account to announce the firing of Kristi Noem. He confirmed her dismissal and named Oklahoma senator Markwayne Mullin as her successor. In addition, the President noted that Noem, “who has served us well, and has had numerous and spectacular results (especially on the Border!), will be moving to be Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas, our new Security Initiative in the Western Hemisphere.”
“Sounds like someone’s about to become the FIFA secretary of Homeland Security,” Stephen Colbert reacted, in reference to FIFA dubiously making Trump the inaugural recipient of its ‘Peace Prize’ last year.
