After Moana, Disney’s Other Hit Is Getting a Live-Action Movie

A new rumor suggests that Disney is developing a live-action remake of their billion-dollar animated hit, Frozen. The movie, released in 2013, was a massive critical and commercial success, spawning a franchise, which includes sequels — one released in 2019, and two more that are on the way, animated shorts, and video games like Frozen’s Olaf Quest.

Live-action Frozen movie said to be in works at Disney

According to industry scooper MyTimetoShineHello, a live-action Frozen remake is reportedly in development at Disney. Their post on X (formerly Twitter) reads, “A Frozen live action movie is now officially in the works.” However, Disney has not officially addressed plans to remake Frozen in live-action.

Although a live-action Frozen movie remains unconfirmed, the above rumor holds some substance. In recent years, Disney has been releasing live-action remakes of popular animated films like The Lion King and Aladdin.

The company is now gearing up for the live-action adaptation of Moana, which will hit theaters on July 10, 2026. In addition, live-action adaptations of Tangled, Hercules, and Bambi are reportedly in the works.

Creatives and cast members have not been confirmed to be attached to the rumored Frozen live-action remake. However, some actors have expressed interest in appearing in the potential Disney project.

Notably, Anya Taylor-Joy expressed interest in playing Elsa in a possible live-action Frozen movie. While speaking to Vogue Hong Kong, the Furiosa actress shared, “I think Frozen would be pretty great. It would be very fun to shoot ice out of your hand. Also, you’d just be the favourite at every kid’s birthday party.” She continued, “All of my siblings have children now, so I would love for them to be able to say ‘my auntie is Elsa.’ That would be pretty sick.”

Meanwhile, Kristen Bell, who voices Anna in the Frozen films, said in Elle’s Ask Me Anything that she wants Kissing Booth star Joey King to take on the character in the potential live-action adaptation.

The Frozen franchise is set to continue with Frozen 3, which will hit theaters on November 24, 2027. A fourth film is also reportedly in development.
