Lead Today Show host Savannah Guthrie made a mistake that Reba McEntire was forced to correct live on air. The legendary country singer appeared on the popular NBC morning show with Guthrie and Carson Daly mainly to discuss her judging duties on The Voice, her upcoming performance at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting, and the second season of Happy’s Place where she plays bar owner Bobbie McAllister. However, in the middle of the interview, she had to put her hands up and clarify something that Guthrie said about her relationship with Rex Linn.
McEntire halts Today interview “before everyone has a conniption fit”
Guthrie mistakenly described actor Rex Linn, who also stars in Happy’s Place, as Reba McEntire’s “husband” when she commented about the sitcom.
“You know when you also met your husband there, so good ol’ Rex…,” Guthrie began to say, as McEntire took a few moments to process what the Today host said. Meanwhile, Daly looked off and pointed to the side so that the camera could focus on Linn who was watching the interview on stage.
The country star put up her hands and had to interrupt before the interview moved on.
“Now, wait a minute!” McEntire said, “Well, wait, before everyone has a conniption fit at home, we’re just engaged.”
Guthrie quickly apologized for the mishap. “You’re engaged. I’m sorry. You’re soon-to-be [married].”
McEntire continued, “My family is gonna [go], ‘Wait! You didn’t tell us!'” The country star laughed as Guthrie promptly replied, “Good point.”
When asked whether she and her fiancé has fun on set, the singer described Finn as a “workaholic” and “loves to rehearse.” McEntire admits that she’s not so excited about rehearsal, but Finn makes sure that she knows her lines.
After four years of dating, the couple got engaged in 2024 on Christmas Eve, though she decided not to announce it at the time due to the LA fires. Roughly a year in after getting engaged, they have yet to set a date for the wedding, but Reba wants it to be “low-key, lots of fun, lots of people, lots of food.”
