Prime Video’s Reacher continues to dominate the action-thriller space, but series lead Alan Ritchson says Season 3 corrected one thing, especially after one creative issue in Season 2 left him “upset.” The actor revealed how the show addressed the problem and why the latest season feels more refined and intense.

Reacher is widely known for its high-impact fight sequences, yet Alan Ritchson admitted that Season 2’s action didn’t meet his expectations. Speaking to The Movie Podcast, the actor said he walked into Season 3 determined to overhaul the way the series approached its combat scenes.
“Season 2, I wasn’t really thrilled with a lot of the action at all,” Ritchson stated. “I was really upset with the way some of those fights were executed.” He pinpointed specific production issues, adding, “We didn’t do a good job on the day. We weren’t using the right tools. It wasn’t cut very well.”
Despite his criticism, Season 2 was still well-received and included standout scenes. For instance, there is one stunt where Ritchson ran through a sheet of glass. However, he believed the choreography and camera work lacked the precision that Season 1 delivered, especially when compared to the explosive showdown at the Kliner Foundation. His disappointment became the driving force for improving Season 3.
To address his concerns, Ritchson pushed for new equipment and a reworked action style for Reacher Season 3. “I got Amazon to approve some new tools that allow us to really get close and intimate with the fight,” he explained. He also noted that he reduced the number of cameras on set to avoid cluttered editing. “I made sure that there weren’t extra cameras rolling, so we have a lot of chances to cut.”
Ritchson described the updated approach as a “ballet” between the camera and the performers, creating cleaner, sharper sequences. The improvements paid off, with the actor calling the latest season’s action some of the strongest yet.
