The Night Agent Lead Wants Peter’s Story To End, Talks Future

Gabriel Basso, who plays the lead role of FBI agent Peter Sutherland in The Night Agent, addressed his future in the hit Netflix series. In a recent interview, the actor expressed a desire to conclude his character’s story and step away from the show. The 10-episode third season of the action thriller show recently premiered on the streaming platform.

Gabriel Basso doesn’t want to overstay his welcome on The Night Agent

While promoting The Night Agent Season 3, Basso was asked if the popular series planned to conclude at some point. The A House of Dynamite star responded by admitting to ScreenRant that his work in the series gave him “job security,” which he appreciated. He also expressed his wish for his character to have a story arc.

However, he stressed that he didn’t want to play Peter in The Night Agent longer than he had to. Basso said, “What I don’t want to do is be the fighter that you’re watching, and you’re like, ‘Dude, you should have retired six fights ago.’ I don’t want that.”

While Basso expressed disinterest in continuing to play Peter indefinitely, he did entertain the idea of future seasons of The Night Agent following a different protagonist. “I want people to be able to watch one [season] and end up in a place where they’re like, ‘Perfect. That story’s told,” he explained. “Now, go make it off with a new night agent or a new facet of this world. But Peter’s story is told. I don’t want to overstay my welcome at all.”

Basso isn’t the only one who thinks The Night Agent can continue with a different protagonist at the helm. While speaking to Variety last year, showrunner Shawn Ryan emphasized that the show didn’t strictly follow Basso or his character. He said, “The show is called ‘The Night Agent.’ It’s not called ‘The Gabriel Basso Show.’” Ryan then acknowledged that there might come a point where the actor elects to pursue different creative ventures and “a different night agent” is introduced.
