Over 300,000 Jeeps Recalled for Potential ‘Fire’ Risk

A significant recall for more than 300,000 Jeeps have been issued over a faulty battery pack that could cause a vehicle fire. The affected vehicles include the Jeep Wrangler 4Xe for model years 2020 to 2025 and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe for years 2022 to 2026. The safety recall report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that 5% of the SUVs have the defect. Stellantis and Chrysler do not yet have a remedy for the recall for these plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, but the company has one in development.

Affected Jeep owners urged to park outside and away from other cars

Both affected Jeep models have been built with a high voltage battery pack with “cells which may be susceptible to separator damage,” according to the NHTSA report.

This defect when combined with other complex interactions within the cells can “lead to a vehicle fire.” The agency warns that this can result in increased risk to occupants in the vehicle and to others outside as well.

The NHTSA has several recommendations for affected Jeep owners. Since the vehicle fire risk is reduced when the battery is fully depleted, it is advised that the batteries are not recharged. Stellantis urges owners to park the vehicles away from structures and other vehicles until a remedy is reached.

Stellantis is aware of 19 customer assistance records and 19 field reports related to this issue between January 28 and September 2, 2025. It reports 1 injury due to this issue for all markets.

The company says a remedy is under development and will be notifying owners about the issue on December 2, 2025. Dealers will be notified around November 6. Owners can reach Chrysler customer service for more information. Vehicle Identification Numbers involved in this recall will be available for search on NHTSA.gov beginning November 6, 2025.

This recall may overlap with another one affecting over 24,000 Jeep Wranglers over a software update that could lead to a sudden loss of power. Another recall has been issued for over 170,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles as well due to a moonroof defect.
