According to a new rumor, Peacemaker Season 2 has made a villain from the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) canon in the DC Universe (DCU). The DCEU is a cinematic franchise based on DC characters and stories. It started with 2013’s Man of Steel and concluded with 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Meanwhile, the DCU is the ongoing franchise inspired by DC Comics.
Peacemaker rumor makes DCEU’s Enchantress canon to DCU
Industry scooper @MyTimeToShineH shared on X (formerly Twitter), “In Peacemaker Season 2, Rick Flag Jr. mention his girlfriend June Moone (Enchantress) which makes the events of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad at least somewhat canon to the DCU.”
The 2016 superhero film Suicide Squad features Cara Delevingne as Dr. June Moone / Enchantress. Rick Flag Jr., portrayed in the movie by Joel Kinnaman, is romantically interested in June, and that serves as a major plot device. If what @MyTimeToShineH posted turns out to be accurate, it means Enchantress is part of the DCU.
The newer franchise is considered a soft reboot of the DCEU. The first season of Peacemaker is a spin-off of 2021’s The Suicide Squad, helmed by DCU co-head and Peacemaker creator James Gunn.
However, Season 2 is part of the DCU. There was a scene toward the end of the first season in which the DCEU Justice League makes an appearance. However, Season 2 Episode 1, “The Ties That Grind,” effectively retcons this and several other elements of the DCEU. In the recap, the DCU’s Justice Gang, alongside Superman and Supergirl, appear instead of the Justice League.
Gunn has already brought John Cena’s Christopher Smith / Peacemaker from the DCEU to the DCU and expressed interest in putting Idris Elba’s Bloodsport in the fledgling new universe as well. So, it’s possible that Cara Delevingne can reprise her role as June Moone in the future.
Peacemaker Season 2 airs weekly on HBO Max on Thursdays.
