Netflix’s Yellowstone-Like Show Reduces Season 2 Episode Count

Ransom Canyon star Minka Kelly recently shared that the number of episodes for Season 2 has been reduced. Season 1 of the Western romantic drama series debuted on the streaming platform Netflix on April 17, 2025. Ransom Canyon is created by April Blair and is based on Jodi Thomas’ books. Despite a mixed critical reception, it received a good response from the audience.

Ransom Canyon Season 2 won’t have 10 episodes like Season 1

Minka Kelly recently sat down for a chat to promote her upcoming movie Champagne Problems. The actress, who essays Quinn O’Grady on Ransom Canyon, also conveyed that the number of episodes in Season 2 has been reduced.

Kelly told Entertainment Tonight, “We’re shooting it right now, so it’s been actually really fun and the season is really, really good. We’re all like, I think I like the season even better. It’s eight episodes now instead of ten, so they’ve really tightened up all the storylines. So it’s just jam-packed with so much. There’s a lot more levity this season, too, which I love. The levity to break the tension, which I find is such a nice relief sometimes, when it can be really heavy.”

The Euphoria star further added that the new season will have new characters, which she thinks “people are really going to love.”

Season 1 of Ransom Canyon topped the Top 10 list on Netflix upon its release. However, it received a score of 45 percent on the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes. On the other hand, it scored 73 percent on the Popcornmeter. Apart from Kelly, the show features Josh Duhamel, Garrett Wareing, Jack Schumacher, Lizzy Greene, and many more.

Ransom Canyon was renewed for a sophomore season in June 2025. Recently, creator April Blair told Netflix, “I couldn’t be happier that Netflix is ready to get back in the saddle for Ransom Canyon.”
