Tom Ellis, who portrays Oliver on the Hulu drama series Tell Me Lies, gave a disappointing update on the show’s future beyond the upcoming Season 3. The series premiered on September 7, 2022, and received a largely positive response from critics and the general audience. The show returned with its sophomore season on September 4, 2024. Hulu renewed Tell Me Lies for the third season in December 2024.
Tom Ellis is sure Tell Me Lies Season 3 is the last one
Ellis said in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight that Tell Me Lies will end with the third season. When asked about the show’s future, he told the outlet, “I think so, yeah. I think Meaghan [Oppenheimer, series creator] has written it to be the last season. For sure, yeah.”
Notably, Tell Me Lies is an adaptation of the 2018 book by Carola Lovering. In addition to her screenwriting duties, Oppenheimer serves as an executive producer on the show alongside Emma Roberts, Jonathan Levine, and others.
In the same interview, which Ellis gave ahead of the release of his new movie, The Thursday Murder Club, the Lucifer star hinted at what’s in store for fans in the third chapter of the hit series. “The best tease is, believe it or not, it’s probably the darkest season of Tell Me Lies so far.”
When the interviewer asked Ellis if he could elaborate on that, the actor played coy. “Um, not really. I don’t want to get into trouble. No, I can’t. But what I could say there are some unlikely partnerships that start to happen this season,” he said.
In a separate interview with E! News, Grace Van Patten, who plays Lucy Albright on the show, echoed what Ellis said about the third season. “It’s gonna be crazy,” she teased. “It feels like the peak of all these young people’s worst decisions.”
Tell Me Lies Season 3 currently doesn’t have an official release date.
