Sam Heughan talks about the prospects of Jamie’s death in Season 8 of Outlander
Sam Heughan recently made an appearance on The Tonight Show. Host Jimmy Fallon asked the actor what he thought about the rumors about Jamie dying in Season 8. In response, Heughan said, “I mean, in the trailer, we do hear he [Jamie] gets some information. He gets a book from the future that tells him that he’s going to die in a battle.”
The Love Again actor continued, “He’s obviously not sure if this is true or not, but that is something that he’s certainly contending with this season. Does he die? I don’t know. You’ll have to tune in to find out.”
Heughan also clarified that he doesn’t know the ending. “We shot multiple endings,” he said, “I was there, but I don’t know how it ends. So I’ll be watching with you.”
Notably, back in December 2025, Sophie Skelton, who plays Brianna “Bree” Fraser MacKenzie, revealed during an interview that the cast and crew had filmed multiple endings for the final season of the hit series “just so it’s kind of a surprise for everyone.”
Ronald D. Moore developed Outlander as an adaptation of the book series of the same name by Diana Gabaldon. Besides those mentioned above, the series’ cast also includes David Berry as Lord John Grey, John Bell as Ian Fraser Murray, Caitlin O’Ryan as Lizzie Wemyss, Lauren Lyle as Marsali MacKimmie Fraser, and César Domboy as Fergus Claudel Fraser.
Outlander Season 8 will have 10 episodes. It premieres on Starz on March 6, 2026.
