Freakier Friday Reviews & Rotten Tomatoes Score Are Almost as Strong as Original

Following early reviews, Freakier Friday has debuted to mostly positive reception, earning a Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. The sequel brings back Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, and is gaining praise for its nostalgic callbacks, updated story, and heartfelt performances.

Freakier Friday starts with commendable reviews

Nell Minow (Movie Mom) wrote, “Curtis and Lohan are producers and they know what the fans and newcomers to the story want, including a Pink Slip reunion so rousing that it might make us look forward to a Freakiest Friday someday.” Yasmine Kandil (Little White Lies) called it “a worthwhile watch,” highlighting its “humor, nostalgia, and stellar performances.”

Olly Richards (Time Out) noted, “There are almost endless holes you could pick in its logic and storytelling, but it gives you few reasons to want to. This Friday’s freakier, but it’s kind of… funner too.” Tim Robey (The Daily Telegraph UK) described it as “unobjectionable fun,” while Esther Zuckerman (Bloomberg News) called it “charming and genuinely sweet.”

Alonso Duralde (The Film Verdict) wrote, “Freakier Friday represents an all-too-rare opportunity for talented women on both sides of the camera to demonstrate their chops at big-screen comedy.” Kristen Lopez (The Film Maven) labeled it “the best Disney sequel in a minute,” and Maureen Lee Lenker (Entertainment Weekly) described it as “a heart-on-its-sleeve ode to strengthening and forging bonds.”

Peter Bradshaw (The Guardian) credited Jamie Lee Curtis for embodying “the story’s wacky spirit,” while Owen Gleiberman (Variety) said it “scores as skewed Disney family fairy tale.” David Rooney (The Hollywood Reporter) offered a dissenting view, calling it a “painfully stretched cash-grab.”

How Freaky Friday’s Rotten Tomatoes score compares with Freakier Friday

Freakier Friday currently holds a 79% critic score, compared to the original 2003 Freaky Friday‘s 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. With the sequel still accumulating reviews, its final score may shift in either direction depending on remaining top critic submissions.

Critics praised Mark Waters’ original film for its sharp writing and strong performances. They have also commended the 2025 sequel for its lead cast and nostalgic callbacks. If the current trend continues and major outlets maintain their support, Freakier Friday may end up with a score close to the original. The sequel’s audience score has not been released yet.
