According to current dynamics, fans of the Star Trek: Prodigy series may not be able to witness a Season 3, with Netflix supposedly inclined towards canceling the show for good. The animated series, originally released on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon in 2021, has spanned two installments so far. While many have been waiting for an update regarding Star Trek: Prodigy being renewed for a third edition, the latest speculations indicate that the series will most likely be canceled altogether.
Star Trek: Prodigy Season 3 could get canceled after new rumor
As per the latest update by Matt Webb Mitovich, Star Trek: Prodigy is edging ever closer to being officially canceled by Netflix.
In the most recent edition of TVLine’s Inside Line, the entertainment industry veteran shed light on the fates of several shows. This includes the said animated outing in the Star Trek franchise.
Talking about the possibilities of Star Trek: Prodigy Season 3, Mitovich noted, “That looks as unlikely as ever, given that A) Season 1 of the animated series recently disappeared from Netflix after the streamer let the license expire, B) Paramount Global Content Distribution has been out there billing Season 2 as “Final Season,” and, lastly, C) a source assures me there has been no movement on a Season 3.”
Created by Kevin and Dan Hageman, the series first aired on Paramount+. However, the network decided to cancel it after just one season. Netflix soon picked up Star Trek: Prodigy and renewed it for a second season. It subsequently premiered on the streaming platform in 2024. However, Star Trek: Prodigy has not received any positive update regarding a potential Season 3 ever since.
Netflix has already removed the first season of the series from its roster. Moreover, the second season will follow suit in the coming months. At the time of writing, it remains unclear as to what streaming platform the two seasons of Star Trek: Prodigy will end up on after exiting Netflix.
