Michael Shannon Turned Down ‘Star Wars’ Or ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Because Nah

After I randomly watched Bug and Shotgun Stories on the same night, Michael Shannon immediately became my favorite actor. He’s my favorite actor so hard when he was cast in Man Of Steel, I thought the movie was gonna be amazing lol. It wasn’t. It was shit. Zack Snyder ruined it. He basically says it in his interview with Fandango.

Fandango: These days it’s all about those big franchises, though. You were part of the DC Cinematic Universe briefly, but is that something you want more of? Are you looking for a big franchise to come on for the long haul?

Shannon: Nah. When I did Man of Steel I thought the story was interesting; I thought it was relevant. It was about a civilization that destroys the planet they live on and goes looking for another one. Ring any bells? That’s why I did it. I didn’t do it because I felt I needed a big comic book franchise – I honestly thought it was a beautiful story.

Then Snyder ruined any chance of Shannon ever being in another movie like that again.

Fandango: So no big Marvel or Star Wars movie for you then?

Shannon: No, I’m not really looking for that. They called me recently about some iteration – I won’t say – but some version of a movie that’s been made already countless times. They were gonna give me a lot of of money, but I was like nah. Big movie, too. But I have to think it’s an interesting story. If I don’t, I can’t do it. I won’t do it.

So he’s either talking about the new Star Wars movies or Spider-Man: Homecoming. I assume he wasn’t offered a role in Black Panther. Michael Keaton will be playing the villain, Vulture, in Spider-Man, and that doesn’t seem like a first choice to me. SO big franchise movies are out for Michael Shannon. That’s probably for the best. Although, he was technically in another Zack Snyder movie. Let’s hear his thoughts.

Fandango: The character you played in Man of Steel also had a cameo in another movie that came out around the same time, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Have you watched that at all?

Shannon: You’re gonna get me in trouble, man! People ask me about this all the time. Okay, I’ll tell you the god’s honest truth. Zack [Snyder] is gonna kill me for this – he’s gonna kill me. I watched it once and I fell asleep.
