A new Daily Mail report revealed an account by royal author Katie Nicholl. In the book, “The Making of a Royal Romance,” the author claimed that Prince Harry and his ex-girlfriend, Chelsy Davy, ended their relationship due to Davy feeling ignored. Harry and Davy dated from 2004 after meeting during his gap year in Zimbabwe, cycling through several breakups before finally parting ways around 2010.
The author recounted the moment the businesswoman signaled the breakup on Facebook. She wrote, “Then she did something which infuriated him: she changed the status on her Facebook page to ‘Relationship: Not in one.’” Nicholl added that Harry was “angry and upset” at how public the move was when it made headlines. One of Davy’s friends, quoted by Nicholl, said the breakup reflected deeper frustrations. “Chelsy was fed up of just being Harry’s girlfriend,” the friend said.
They added that Davy felt she was investing more than he was and was “always coming second.” The pressures of scrutiny and distance while Harry trained with the military reportedly exacerbated the strain. Meanwhile, Harry has acknowledged the depth of their relationship in his memoir, “Spare.” He wrote, “I loved Chels’s ease, that she wasn’t complicated.”
The former couple remained on good terms. Davy attended Prince William’s wedding in 2011 and was invited to Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018. Body language analyst Judi James told the Daily Mail, “When she arrived, everyone else was chatting and laughing, but she sat in the pews just looking to one side — gazing reflectively into space and biting her lips slightly.”
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has also emphasized Davy’s reluctance to embrace royal life. He told Femail that she was “a free spirit who didn’t care about his royal connections.” Davy has since stepped back from the spotlight, married hotel executive Sam Cutmore‑Scott, and is now a mother of two.
