A new rumor suggests that Jeremy Renner could return in Hawkeye Season 2, even though he earlier stated that he turned down the prospect of reprising his role due to a salary dispute. Hawkeye Season 1 premiered on Disney+ on November 24, 2021, and aired for six episodes before concluding on December 22, 2021.
Hawkeye Season 2 could still bring back Jeremy Renner
Industry scooper Daniel Richtman recently claimed, “Marvel [is] still in talks with Jeremy Renner to come back for a season 2 of Hawkeye.” This comes after Renner stated on the High Performance podcast in May 2025 that he rejected the offer to return in the sophomore season to do “twice the amount of work for half the amount of money.”
The Hurt Locker actor added, “I’m like, ‘I’m sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season.'” He explained that the offer didn’t come from Marvel and underscored how insulting it was. “This is like, just Disney, not even really Disney,” he elaborated, adding, “It’s just the penny pinchers, the accountants. I told them to go fly a kite. I mean, just at the insult offer. So we didn’t see eye to eye on it.”
Renner did mention at the time that he still loved Clint Barton / Hawkeye and wanted to reprise the role. Accordingly, what Richtman is speculating can potentially be true. However, Renner also stated in the same interview that he was “happy to let that go, because my body’s probably thanking me,” referring to the 2023 snowplow incident in which he suffered serious injuries.
Renner’s Hawkeye was part of the original Avengers roster. He made his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2011’s Thor. Hawkeye was his first solo project featuring his own character. After the show, Renner’s Barton appeared in the MCU series Echo via archival footage.
