King Charles Honors Ex-Prince Andrew’s Former Staffer Amid Scandal — Report

King Charles handed a notable palace honor to one of ex-Prince Andrew’s former senior aides this week. The move put Dame Charlotte Manley back in the royal spotlight at a moment when attention around the former prince remains intense. According to a new report, the award came during Tuesday’s investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle. The development also stood out because Manley had recently said she would assist authorities if needed, although the main significance here was the staffer’s honor itself.

King Charles awarded Charlotte Manley the Dame Commander of the Royal Victorian Order at Windsor Castle on Tuesday. The honor was announced in the monarch’s 2026 New Year Honours List. As per the Mirror report, Dame Commander is the second-highest rank in the Royal Victorian Order. It also gave her the right to use the title “Dame.”

Manley served as ex-Prince Andrew’s assistant from 1996. Later, she became his Private Secretary and Treasurer from 2001 to 2003. Meanwhile, the honor also recognized a much longer royal record. After leaving that private office role, Manley became chapter clerk of St George’s Chapel, Windsor, in 2003. She retired from that post only last year.

Before joining royal service, she served in the Royal Navy between 1976 and 1996. In addition, she had already received an OBE in 1996 and a CVO in 2018. The Mirror further noted that she joined the party welcoming President Donald Trump and Melania Trump to Windsor during the 2025 state visit.

However, her name recently resurfaced for another reason. Following the investigation surrounding ex-Prince Andrew, Manley was asked whether she would assist the police. She told The Times, “I would rather talk to the police than the press, not that I would have much to tell them.”

Still, this latest moment centered far more on the royal recognition than that brief comment. Some fresh coverage around Andrew has stayed focused on his temporary stay at Wood Farm while Marsh Farm undergoes renovation.

One palace source told RadarOnline, “Charles is on the verge of banishing Andrew into a caravan if he doesn’t stop making demands about his new home – that is how strained things have become.” So, the king’s decision to publicly honor a former staffer of Andrew landed as a striking palace moment during a difficult stretch for the royal household.
