Global rock icon Paul McCartney reportedly got himself temporarily banned on Reddit after posting last week. While the English musician is rarely seen on the discussion forum, he recently took to the platform to share something with his fans. However, things did not go as he or anyone had expected.
Reddit temporarily banned Paul McCartney on the platform
Paul McCartney recently held a two-night, intimate concert titled Paul McCartney Rocks The Fonda. It took place at The Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on March 27 and 28. After the success of both shows, the former Beatles bassist and keyboardist took to Reddit to thank fans for attending.
The “Hey Jude” singer operates his Reddit account under the handle u/paulmccartney. Since no phones were allowed during the event, McCartney tried to share some photos on the platform. His post read, “Hope you enjoyed the show last night. As last night was a phone-free experience we wanted to make sure you had some memories from the show to share with friends, family and loved ones” (via Unilad Tech).
The post also included a Dropbox link that appeared to contain photos and videos from the concert. However, his account was soon banned. A Reddit user later shared the screenshot of the banned account on the r/PaulMcCartney subreddit. Users in the comments suspect that the platform’s built-in system could have flagged the link, leading to a ban. Notably, the “Yesterday” singer’s account has since been unbanned.
The ban also prompted some interesting comments from other users. One user wrote, “Banned on the run?” which is a nod to McCartney’s 1973 album, Band on the Run. The veteran produced it with his band, Paul McCartney and Wings, after leaving the Beatles.
A second user said, “It’s such a Reddit mod thing to do to have the logic of ‘It doesn’t matter if he’s literally the subject of our subreddit, he still needs to follow the rules just like everybody else.’ While salivating to ban the account, lmfao.”
Meanwhile, the “Let It Be” singer shared a few photos from night 1 and night 2 on Instagram last week.
