Jack Black reveals Donald Glover ‘campaigned’ to be part of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Jack Black confessed that Donald Glover is a huge fan of Super Mario and campaigned to be a part of the franchise’s latest installment. Black, who reprises his role as Bowser, told ExtraTV, “It’s kind of a cool thing. We got lucky that we got Brie [Larson], who crushes it and loves the Nintendo universe.”

Continuing further, he revealed, “And also Donald, who campaigned for the role. He told his agent, ‘Call [Illumination CEO] Chris Meledandri. Tell him I really want to be Yoshi, I’d love to be in the new ‘Super Mario Bros.’ Because he loves it, and he loves that universe.”

In a separate interaction with ExtraTV, Glover shared his thoughts on joining the Super Mario star cast. The 42-year-old actor shared, “It was a lot like the movie, you know, start off a little timid. I was like, ‘OK, how am I gonna do this? These guys did such a great job on the first one.’”

The Community star added, “And that’s a hard thing to do. It’s a very iconic movie and character. I always believe in the idea of under-promising, over-delivering, and was like, ‘I’ll just study really hard, and hopefully I’ll be beloved like them.’”

Fans managed to hear a tiny glimpse of Glover as Yoshi and lavished praise on his voice-acting talent. One fan commented, “If you ask me, I would say that’s the real test of a proper actor – the ability to get into any role or character without detection. It’s being flexible really. Glover is goated.”

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic have directed The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is in cinemas on April 1.
