Donald Trump’s Signature Will Soon Appear on US Dollars

Donald Trump and U.S. Treasury officials have addressed a notable change to American currency ahead of a major national milestone. The administration confirmed plans that will introduce a new element to banknotes, marking a shift from long-standing conventions around their design and signatures.

Donald Trump plans to put his signature on US dollars

Donald Trump is set to become the first sitting U.S. president to have his signature appear on U.S. dollar bills, according to the Treasury Department. The change will see his name printed alongside Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, marking a departure from longstanding currency design practices. The department stated the move is intended to coincide with the United States’ 250th anniversary.

The Treasury Department described the decision as unprecedented, noting that U.S. banknotes have traditionally carried the signatures of Treasury officials rather than the president. Bessent said, “There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S. dollar bills bearing his name.” He added that “it is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued at the semiquincentennial.”

Under the change, the Treasury Department will remove the U.S. treasurer’s signature, which has appeared on currency since 1861. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing will print the first $100 bills featuring the new signatures in June, with other denominations to follow. Current notes in circulation still carry the signatures of previous treasury officials.

Officials said the update reflects a broader effort tied to commemorations of the 250th anniversary of American independence. The anniversary marks the formal declaration by the original 13 colonies to separate from Britain. Treasury representatives stated that the redesign does not alter the legal status or value of U.S. currency.

The government has included Trump’s signature following earlier instances of his name appearing on government-issued financial instruments. During his first term, authorities included his signature on stimulus checks issued during the COVID-19 pandemic. Officials have also approved additional commemorative items, including coins bearing his image, as part of anniversary-related initiatives.
