The Pitt star Noah Wyle calls out US healthcare system
The hit medical procedural series, The Pitt, has gained wide popularity for its realistic portrayal of an underfunded and understaffed emergency room. Noah Wyle stars as Dr. Michael ‘Robby’ Robinavitch, the leader of the emergency room. During his appearance at the screening, Wyle was hopeful that fans in the UK would find the show relatable.
The former ER actor also noted that the UK healthcare system was different from that in the US. “Our system at the moment is laden with the insurance companies being the intermediary … and care being predicated by the algorithm that the insurance company dictates. So it’s really become a profit-driven, quality-of-care-diminishing system,” he said of the US healthcare system.
Wyle added, “I personally think we need some sort of national healthcare service in the United States. We need universal coverage for everybody.” He also noted that the UK healthcare system was “frustrating for totally different reasons.” For those unversed, UK citizens receive comprehensive free care, thanks to the publicly funded National Health Service, or NHS.
All episodes of season 1 and most of season 2 will drop simultaneously for UK fans to stream via the official HBO Max URL. The streamer will also be available via launch partners Sky and Prime Video. The 12th episode of season 2 will be released in the US on March 26.
Created by R. Scott Gemmill, the series also stars Tracy Ifeachor, Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, and Taylor Dearden, among others. In 2025, Wyle won the Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Meanwhile, LaNasa took home the Outstanding Supporting Actress trophy.
