Minecraft, one of the world’s most popular games, is set to receive a major addition with a new theme park scheduled to open in 2027. Mojang Studios, the game developer, along with Merlin Entertainments, is building a theme park based on the 3D sandbox game. It will feature roller coasters, block-built playscapes, interactive adventures, and themed retail and dining. This development will further expand the world of Minecraft, which has continued to grow in recent years.
Minecraft set to open first theme park in 2027
Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios have announced plans for the first theme park based on the popular game, Minecraft. The theme park is set to open at Chessington World of Adventures in Greater London, United Kingdom. It will include some of the game’s most iconic biomes and items. Moreover, it will also feature roller coasters, block-built playscapes, and interactive adventures inspired by the video game. And, it will have themed retail and dining experiences.
In the announcement on Merlin’s website, it was revealed that £50 million, roughly $70 million, has been invested in the project. Merlin described it as the next “major evolution of the franchise.”
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be bringing Minecraft’s creativity, bold adventures, and ridiculous fun to life at a theme park for the first time at Chessington World of Adventures,” Angela Johnson, SVP of Global Brand at Merlin Entertainments, said. “Minecraft World will allow friends and families to play, explore, and craft together on a truly epic scale. Working closely together with Mojang Studios, we are meticulously creating an authentic world that the global community of Minecraft fans will want to immerse themselves in and experience the game in a whole new way.”
Torfi Frans Ólafsson is the senior creative director of entertainment at Minecraft. He added, “A place where you can literally be in the Minecraft Overworld. You will have an adventure of your own with your family and friends. The team at Merlin Entertainments and Mojang have worked hard to craft an experience that feels immersive, authentic, and welcoming, and we can’t wait for our community to experience it.”
